Pitchfork have premiered new Sean Nicholas Savage track 'Naturally' by way of announcing the forthcoming record 'Bermuda Waterfall', due for release on 12th May on Arbutus. Listen below!
""Naturally" definitely reflects the tropical vibe of the title of the album it's taken from—a light, lilting song with a pretty melody and a few sparse elements (plinked-out keyboard, a stray guitar line or two) that come together to further suggest Savage's debt to fellow oddball Ariel Pink" Pitchfork
"..its melodies and progressions are so lovely and proper and songwriterly that you can't help but be caught up in it." Dummy
"..a sleepy, Hawaiian sunset number. Sandpaper percussion lines the seams, in a song where the focus quite naturally fixes its gaze on Sean's vocals. "Pink sky went up and I started to cry," he sings, turning on the waterworks. It's a vivid reminder of just how charming this guy can be." FakeDIY
And here's Savage in his own words on the new record:
"bermuda waterfall= invisible action, unconscious fertilization,
the subconscious master plan continuum
much of the words to bermuda (which i feel is the centerpiece) were written whilst travelling between one place i loved and another place/people i loved, and trying to describe my most potent dreams related to my most potent life experiences. there was a feeling of disappointment in communication with the people that i'm calling out to connect with through my performances and travels in the last year, a feeling of loneliness.
full of yin and yang, and just sitting back and taking a look at my life, something i'm happy with, and came naturally in the words of which i intended for the first time nothing. i'll have to wait a few years before i understand exactly whats going on in the record, in this time in my life, and i'm alright with that, cos i'm into mystery."
